Search Engine Strategies London 2009
I went to London on Wednesday last week to attend the Search Engine Strategies conference and although I didn’t get to do some shopping, I really enjoyed this day!
I learned many things and was impressed to see how easy going and accessible people can be in this industry, it is definitely a great industry to be in.
Among the most interesting things to me, was Shari Thurow’s presentation in the “Searcher Behaviour Research Update” session. In this presentation, Shari Thurow differentiated informational, navigational and transactional searches and explained how these different types of behaviours have to be taken into consideration when planning any search marketing campaign. Shari Thurow is the Founder and SEO Director of Omni Marketing Interactive.
Amanda Watlington, in a session dedicated to Video and Podcast SEO, highlighted how video and audio content are compelling to users disclosing the following figures concerning the UK and the month of June 2008 according to Comscore:
–27 million people watched 3 billion videos online
–118 videos per month per viewer
–19.7 million viewers watched 1.4 billion videos on YouTube.com (72.4 videos per viewer).
She also explained how videos and podcasts could be used by brand marketers and search marketers.
Amanda Watlington is the owner of Searching for Profit.
Neil Stickells, Head of Search and Media at Steak, presented a case study related to the “Time Out London” SEO campaign. This session was very interesting in terms of organisation and best practices when it comes to optimising a big website for search engines.
Finally, Patricia Hursh’s presentation in the “Advanced Paid Search Techniques” session focused on how search marketing campaigns should be adapted to the consumers’ buying cycle.
Patricia Hursh is President of Smar Search Marketing.
These are only samples of presentations, the ones that struck me the most. SES London is a great source of tips and information for any web marketer or advertiser of any field of activity; it’s also a great networking event!
